TRACKING - Ernest Hintz, USA/SV Judge

ERNEST E. HINTZ, USA/SV Judge has thirty plus years of active experience in training, breeding and titling working dogs in the Sport of Schutzhund/IPO/Service dogs. His experience covers being handler, trainer, protection helper, breeder, and competitor. He has been a Working/Schutzhund/IPO Dog Judge for over 20 years.

Ernest’s involvement with Schutzhund encompasses a wide range of participation, conducting seminars on both dog training and handling as well as helper work. He has been a local dog club board member, a German/English and English/German translator at USA Nationals, Regional and local dog club events that have included Schutzhund/IPO, GSD Conformation, Police/Service Dog, and Search & Rescue events.

Ernest has bred and worked with both Dobermans and German Shepherd Dogs. However, since 1988 he has focused exclusively on the German Shepherd Dog.

Ernest’s first interest in working dogs dates to1965 when he acquired his first GSD. Years later this led to his participation with the local police department K9 units and in 1977 he was introduced to the sport of Schutzhund becoming an active member of the Peninsula Canine Corp dog club of Palo Alto, CA. Interestingly, PCC was established in 1959 making it one of USA’s oldest clubs. In 1978 Ernest became a member of Schutzhund USA. In 1988 Ernest also joined Menlo Park SchH Club, one of USA’s largest Working and Conformation dog clubs.

What inspired all this was one amazing Doberman that began a more than 10 year into breeding training, titling and competition in the sport of Schutzhund. This journey was succeeded In1988 when Ernest purchased his first German Shepherd Dog for the Schutzhund Sport. Since then he has focused on the German Shepherd Dog.

1989 marks when Ernest achieved his first Schutzhund/IPO Judge's license with the Doberman Pincher Club of America after completing a DV (Doberman Verein) directed Schutzhund Judges apprenticeship. This was followed in 1990 with his receiving a Schutzhund/IPO Judge's license with the United Doberman Club. This was followed in 1992 with his USA Schutzhund/IPO Judge's license and last year (2009) he received SV recognition as a Working/Schutzhund Judge.

As a Judge, Ernest has had the privilege of judging numerous International, National, Regional Championships along with USA local dog club events. In 2009 Ernest became the Training Director for the Peninsula Canine Corp club, returning full circle to his roots and passion of the Schutzhund Dog Sport.

Ernest lives with his wife of more than thirty years, Peggy, in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Peggy is past USA Treasurer (1990-94) and also participates on her own in Schutzhund, training, titling numerous dogs, attaining USA Schutzhund 3 Club.

Ernest’s other interests include the SFPCC Computer Club as past President & board member (www.SFPCC.org). One of the early computer clubs in the Silicon Valley.

When not pursuing his dog interests, Ernest operates a web hosting support & design business (www.WebHostingHINTS.com) and is involved in numerous Internet eCommerce (www.PetHINTS.com and www.HINTSfromHINTZ.com) websites. Finally, he is a retired California licensed Building Contractor and Financial Turn Around Specialist.

Special note should be made that Ernest hosted, designed & maintained the 2008 WUSV World Championship (www.WUSV2008.org) website. In summation, Ernest believes a working dog needs a sound genetic foundation, correct structure, clear head with confidence and a complementing teamwork with the handler, coach and helper.

Thank you for the invitation and privilege of Judging Tracking & FH Championship at USA’s 2010 WDC. I wish all entries great success. .
